Jesus fucking Christ dude. A house show in Minneapolis got shot up. Two guys walked up, unloaded into the crowd, and ran off. One dead and six injured.
Yeah. Okay. News stories were kinda making it sound like it was more Senseless Minneapolis Urban Violence, but folks that were there are saying this seems like a targeted attack on the venue and the scene for being trans positive. My fucking hometown scene got hit by a fucking terror attack.
Because I'm only seeing other Jews posting about this, non-Jews I need you to be aware that for the past month or two there has been a wave of bomb threats and swattings at synagogues all across the US. They usually do it when services are being livestreamed. I haven't seen a single non-Jew talking about this. High holidays are coming up in a few weeks, which is when most attacks happen against our communities. We're worried, and we need people to know what's happening to us.
This is literally the first I heard, and that pisses me off because according to this article in the New York Post:
a synagogue in Fremont, California was forced to evacuate worshippers Friday after a possible bomb threat was made, police said.
I was in Fremont last Friday less than two miles away and I did not hear a word of this at all.
That's how thoroughly isolated our local Jewish community is being kept from the rest of us.
How fucked up is that!?
Even now, searching online, I'm not finding articles in the major local newspapers about it. Why are the SJ Mercury and the SF Guardian not reporting on fucking bomb threats issued in Fremont? Literally the only local news source I'm finding on it is KTVU, which is our local Fox station, and all they said was:
FREMONT, Calif. - A synagogue in Fremont was evacuated Friday after a possible bomb threat was made, police said.
Fremont police responded around 8 p.m. at the Beth Torah Jewish Temple on 42000 Paseo Padre Parkway after receiving reports of a bomb on the property. After evacuating the members inside and performing a search of the facility and surrounding area, no "suspicious devices or persons" were seen.
Beyond raising awareness, though, I admit I've no clue what to DO about it.
